Fire and Ice!

Back in early December, Maz and I went on a little trip to Iceland. Think I may have er, said something about that in a previous blog. Something involving a ring or something...Anyway its about time I posted the Iceland photos we took. Truly wonderous scenery. Having gone in December I suppose its normal to think that Iceland would be very snowy. It wasnt, cold and wet it was, as least on some days and simply damn cold on others. The nearest to snow we got was the ice-caps looming on the horizon. Unfortunately the cloudy nights prevented us from getting a good sighting of the Northern Lights but as proven with one photo we did see something in the sky - just no where near as dramatic as some postcards and promotional stuff would have you believe. One, possibly two, amazing facts about Iceland is that in the entire country there is only 320,000 people, of which 200,000+ live in the capital, Reykjavik, and yet of the 4000+ 'summer houses' dotted around in the countryside near to volcanoes (some still active), is that 50 a week get broken into. Now surely people, know people who know people such is the small size of the population. Quite amazing. Not as amazing as the fact that the 'best' use of a geothermal power station is to swim/relax/bath in its discharged waters...As weird as it sounds it was fantastic. Hottest bath ever. Enjoy the photos here.

New Year in the Sahara!

Firstly HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!

Maz and I have just returned from a fantastic trip to the Sahara desert. Some of the photos uploaded here, should speak for themselves. For a change New Year arrived without hype, without booze and without that deflated feeling come 00:00:10am after the over excited cheering and hugging. Perhaps its just me getting old but New Year never really seems to be such a good night, or if it was the aftermath is a slight let down. And now it will be an even tougher mission to enjoy as New Year in the Sahara will certainly take some beating. A big recommendation to anyone looking for something that little bit different.

Engaged!

Think the title says it all!!

And I'm damn happy about it too - even if it comes with a lump of sadness!!

OK its taken me just over 6.5yrs to get around to putting a sparkly on Maz's finger and whilst a lot of people, probably including Maz herself, would say its about time, at least the last 14-16months has been spent looking at rings. If anybody knows me, they'll know it took a looooong time to buy a TV so choosing something that will remain on the finger of my beloved took some doing!

And er....well....I didnt quite get it right!! We are now looking for an alternative and Im hoping the one above will do the trick...

For Sale...

Good Evening! For those still in work hope you survived another day. For those who are not sure hope things get better for you. If you have the chance to go out into the world whilst waiting for work, assuming of course you can afford to do so, then I think it would be an opportunity worth taking.

Now Im touching a very large plank of wood, crossing fingers and toes and saying a pray to hope Im not made unemployed during these days of the credit crunch, which would definitely not taste as nice as those Foxes Cream Crunch biscuits you can still buy in a few odd supermarkets these days, but if I was, the thought of what I may do with my time both scares me and invigorates me. Its all about the money for the scary part. I know Maz, (thats my wonderful girlfriend by the way who I ashamedly regret not mentioning before) and I would survive but it may somewhat spoil the best laid plans of mice and men. But in some ways not having much money could be a life changer, a bolt of shocking humanity that at the end of the day its not the be all and end all of life.

Ive been thinking about how to fill in my trip section for our holidays and a something keeps coming to mind when I do. The most enjoyable, most memorable, most invigorating parts for me have always been those events which have not involved money or at least very little money. The desert and Mt Sinai in Egypt; The Yangshao rice terraces in China, the lake in Norway and perhaps sneaking in on the peripheral edge of my reasoning, the drive from Florida to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Petrol was cheap but I suppose it did cost more money than some other experiences. I have the niggling feeling that our forthcoming trip to Goa will provide another such example. Whatever it is that makes me feel good inside, the people, the environment, or the weather, for sure it was not about money. Yes, it was relatively speaking to get to the destinations in the first place but once there, the wallet in the pocket was having its own vacation.

If anyone is really bothering to read my blurbs, please let me know what makes you feel good on holiday. For some it’s probably the 'getting away from it all' feeling and maybe that a part of what Ive been on about in this blog. Doh?!

Oddly this brings me indirectly to a money related issue. Maz and I are looking to move out of London. After nearly 6yrs in the Big Smoke, and 6 yrs of living in apartments or shared houses, it’s time to move into a construction of bricks and mortar which is set in more tranquil settings. I still love London and probably haven’t even scratched the surface of what it has to offer, Ive never been too adventurous in that regard, but it’s been great fun and still is great fun. But that 'getting away from it all' factor is annoying me like a supposedly great singer in an X-Factor final; they are all still terrible without sound surgery and I feel I need to do something about it. For Maz its more to do with having a cat but we'll save that for another day.

So, is there anyone out there looking to purchase or perhaps even rent a 1 bed , er let me rephrase, a MUCH larger than average 1 bed apartment (700sq ft), in the Greenwich/Deptford Bridge area of London? We are well aware of the market and are not looking to make some stinking profit on it but would expect a reasonable value and this we believe is still above £200k. It currently on the market with Life Residential if you want to take a look at the details. Otherwise you can look at more photos here. We believe it to be one of the largest one beds in the ONESE8 complex, and is larger than some of the two beds. It also beats the competition from new builds which are currently being built in the area for example another development not too far away from this place. Nearly quarter of a million for less than 500sq ft is almost enough for me to parade a banner outside the show flat and tell them they are nuts to consider paying such money. OK, OK our flat on the Life website shows £239k but this was set last Oct and I wouldnt give pay that either but its still mighty good value in comparison. Please get in touch if interested. Have not though too much about rental but willing to look at options.

Cheers and I'll be back soon with some other random rant.

The 1st Comment!

Wey-hey! Already have my 1st comment thanks to a talented young artist - Christine Rolls. Thanks Christine!!

Ive added more blurb to the Trips section and uploaded some Photos to the Picture Gallery, dividing it into sections, eg China, Egypt, Arty, General etc etc, and also put some more extrordinarily interesting stuff in the About Me section.

Definately been a miserable Monday in terms of weather here....would have 2feet of snow by now if it was cold enough. Hoping that we get to see a little more this yr before the snow draught sets in for another 4-5years, the last proper snow I remember seeing in the Big Smoke.

A friend of mine will shortly be called Calamity Jane following her antics over the past week. Arm stuck in a chest of drawers last week and now today, falls not only down her stairs at home but also down some escalators. Immensely lucky....well the outcome anyway! A video of the trapped arm will hopefully be donated to put up here tomorrow. A comedy star in the making if ever there was one!

Until next time...

The 1st Blog

G1000 G1000

OK, dont run away! The pic you see opposite is just my nod to the Terminator series and and new Terminator Salvation film which is coming out this year. (Check out the latest poster here). With McG behind the camera the sense of dread is terrifying and unfortunately in that regard that makes me somewhat a bit of a fan-boy. However, unlike most who still think James Cameroon is 'like the best director ever, bar none, so he is', Im starting to get quite excited about the flick. The trailers are good and the early previews by some magazines and websites are so far giving it the thumbs up. Some early reviews and screening sessions will test the anticipation and I hope it stands up.

Anyway, I may rattle on about other films on this site, if I get the time, but the main reason for setting this up was to really have something a bit more personal than Facebook. Of course, I'm there but I think its nice to be taken away from that very familar layout - bet you can describe it detail you know it so well, dont you?! - and have a touch of colour and individualistic charm instead.

Hope you enjoy looking through the site. Definately not a lot on here right now but will try to update more regularly than my Facebook page.

Thanks for visiting.

ps - the design reminds me of a recent game about balls of goo! Its called World of Goo and its a pretty good time waster with challenging levels all wrapped up in a fun, cartoony package. It won an award at Gamespot in '08.
